South Haven, MI

June 21-24, 2020

After many months at home in Indiana and Chicago, we decided to book a long weekend getaway to beautiful South Haven! Given it was Father’s Day, our 4th wedding anniversary, and Steven’s sister, Karen’s birthday that week, it felt like the perfect way to celebrate :)

Steven found an adorable Airbnb a few minutes away from South Beach that we absolutely loved. My sister, Eunice, and Steven’s family accompanied us for this fun adventure. Elijah, my brother who is currently in residency in Grand Rapids, even got to take an evening off to join us at the beach. He swam from buoy to buoy in the ocean because he’s a much more intense swimmer than us ;)

Meanwhile, this was Noah’s first time at the beach since he was 7 weeks old. The lapping waves and sound of the water crashing onshore terrified him.

He loved the sand, and hated the water…at least for day 1 :)

By day 2, Noah got comfortable and loved to be carried into the ocean in our arms or on top of a boogie board. So proud of our little guy :)

We visited Taste one night for dinner, our first time eating in a restaurant since the pandemic started. We kept masks on and all of the wait staff did as well, which made us feel better. The food was delicious — standouts were the Korean chicken and sushi (surprisingly)! Probably would try something new next time, but a nice dinner for the night :)

We finished the night with the best ice cream from Kilwins :)

One day, we drove to Saugatuck to visit the infamous sand dunes. They were incredibly beautiful and the city was much more secluded than South Haven, which made the beaches feel truly like a safe haven :)

The funniest thing happened while we were at the beach. Noah discovered his shadow!! He has genuinely never noticed it before and fearfully backed up as it followed him everywhere he wandered.

South Haven will forever have a special place in our hearts. Until next time!
