Jekyll Island, St Simons Island & Savannah
JEKYLL ISLAND
Since moving to the south, we’ve been so enthralled with how many incredible destinations there are within driving distance of Atlanta. It’s perfect with the kids because we can just get up and go for a long weekend!
Steven turned the big 3-0 this July, so we knew we wanted to do a getaway (and do it up big)! We learned about “Georgia’s Golden Isles” which include Jekyll Island, St Simons Island, and Tybee Island. Once we laid eyes on the historic Jekyll Island Club Resort, we knew our search was done. It’s a 5,500-acre island full of wide-open beaches, bike paths, and incredibly gorgeous old oak trees overlaid with moss.
We spent countless hours at the pool, exploring Driftwood Beach, and enjoying delicious local restaurants with lots of southern eats.
We had never seen anything like Driftwood Beach before — huge pieces of driftwood lay on the sand like beached whales. Our kids just need sand and water and they’re totally happy.
For Steven’s birthday, we ate at Driftwood Bistro and it did not disappoint! In fact, it was so good we only got pictures of the incredible fried okra appetizer. Their squash casserole side literally makes us drool thinking about it!
The incredible crawfish biscuits & gravy at Tribuzio’s Grille for brunch, recommended by the locals.
Jekyll Island Club Resort at sunset <3
Noah’s first time making s’mores!!! It warmed my heart.
The Jekyll Island Club Resort has a sister location on the other side of the island called the Jekyll Beach Club overlooking a beautiful beach. Noah had an absolute ball in the water while Shane took a while to warm up, but ended up loving it too : )
ST. SIMONS ISLAND
St Simons Island was far more bustling than Jekyll Island. We spent a half day there, pretty much for amazing food and window shopping ;) The noteworthy places we loved:
St Simons Crepes - loved their savory “Hangry Man”
Sunset Slush - fabulous Italian ice!
Porch - FANTASTIC fried chicken, brussell sprouts, and sides. A must go!
savannah
Wow, Savannah was such a lovely way to end the trip. Besides the hot heat, it was really fun to experience this incredibly historic city with tons of good eats. Below is a summary of what we did on our day trip:
Collins Quarter at Forsyth for lunch
Walk around Forsyth Park and checked out the amazing local artists showcasing their art on the streets
Leopold’s Ice Cream - one of the oldest ice cream joints in the US since 1919!
Savannah Waterfront exploring cute shops like the Savannah Bee Company & more
Georgia State Railroad Museum - exploring the old trains and a fun train tour for the boys!
Lastly, a stop to Zunzi’s, the best sandwiches and sauces out there!
A look into the Georgia State Railroad Musuem!
